My other new book, Teaching U.S. History: Dialogues Among Social Studies Teachers and Historians (Routledge, 2010). Click on the picture above to find out more.
My new book! :: "An absolutely stunning volume. This rich collection is indispensable to any teacher who wants to bring vitality and energy to the history classroom." --Sam Wineburg, Professor of Education and History, Stanford University::
Rachel Mattson is a historian, teacher educator, artist, & writer. She received a PhD in US and Public History from New York University and is currently an Assistant Professor at the State University of New York at New Paltz. She is the author of many publications about U.S. history, and history education, including the book History As Art, Art as History: Contemporary Art and Social Studies Education (co-written with Dipti Desai and Jessica Hamlin) (Routledge, 2009).
More generally, she believes in the importance of both ambivalence AND decisiveness; and in multilateral solutions, the estate tax, and music. Also no war no war no war. She is perpetually interested in how history feels, and is busy trying to figure out what that means.
